China's Guangzhou Wandfo has raised Rs. 245 kit to India for Rs. Sold at 600, and had to be canceled by India due to poor accuracy
Dispute between Chinese manufacturer and Indian distribution company reaches Delhi High Court
It has been revealed before the Delhi High Court that India has paid about 145 per cent higher than the market price for a Chinese-made rapid antibody testing kit for rapid detection of Corona infection. Documents filed before the court have revealed that a company called Rare Metabolics had sold the kit to the Government of India at a very high price. Unfortunately, even this kit, which was bought at a very high price, seems to give false results and has to be avoided across the country.
Imported at Rs.245, received by the Government at Rs.600
A Chinese company called Vandfo has developed an antibody test kit that can detect Corona virus infections quickly. The kit was imported by Matrix Laboratories at a cost of Rs. 245 per kit. An Indian company called Rare Metabolics had signed an agreement with Guangzhou Wandfo to order 1 million kits. Rare Metabolics then hired a company called Arc Pharmaceuticals for Rs. Distribution rights in India were given at a price of Rs 400 per kit and an order of 5 lakh kits was placed by Arc Pharmaceuticals through the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) at a cost of Rs. 600 per kit were fixed.
Poor quality, the price is too high
During the initial tests of the Rapid Antibody Kit, it was found to be severely flawed in its accuracy. Under these circumstances, it is natural that the Indian government will not order the remaining 2.24 lakh kits.
As a result the companies' dispute reached the court
Assuming that the Government of India cancels the order for the remaining 2.24 lakh kits and does not pay for it, Rare Metabolics has also paid only 2.76 lakh kits of the first batch to Matrix Lab. Matrix is now seeking payment of all 5 lakh kits as per the order. Therefore, Rare Metabolics has filed a case of breach of contract in the Delhi High Court. Despite being India's sole seller-importer, Matrix has entered into a rapid test kit agreement with the Tamil Nadu government through another company called Shaan Biotech. During the court proceedings, the Government of India came to know that the kit with poor accuracy was sold at a very high price.
