Coronavirus: FM Sitharaman announces package worth Rs 1,70,000 crore for poor, daily wagers

A package is ready for the poor who need immediate help like migrant workers and urban and rural poor. No one will go hungry. The package is worth Rs 1.7 lakh crore," Sitharaman said.

The package will include a mix of food security and direct cash transfer benefits, which shield poor families during the lockdown. This will be done under the Pradhan Mantri Gareeb Kalyan Ann Yojna.

Under the Pradhan Mantri Gareeb Kalyan Ann Yojna (PMGKAY), announced for the for next 3 months, at least 80 crore poor people will be covered. Under the scheme, an additional five kilos of rice/wheat will be given along with 1-kilo pulse per household.

She also announced that there will be Rs 50 lakh insurance cover for each healthcare worker for three months.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is holding a press conference right now.  He thanked the health workers who were helping in the fight against Corona.  He has announced medical insurance worth Rs. 50 lakhs.  They include Asha workers, paramedical staff, technical staff, doctors.  It will benefit about two million employees.

 - In the Prime Minister's Poor Welfare Food Scheme, 80 million poor people will be provided food.  There will be no poor appetite so each person will be given 5 kg of wheat or rice for the next three months.  Apart from that, they will also get the same amount of five kilos previously received.

 -1 kg of pulses of choice will be provided to the family for the next three months.  Will also be given.

 -The daily wage in MNREGA has been increased from Rs. 182 to Rs. 200.  5 crore families will benefit.

 -8.69 crore farmers will get immediate benefit of Kisan Honor Fund

 - The first installment of the 2000 accounts will be dropped in the first week of April.

 - Divorced, old and disabled will get an additional Rs 1000 for the next three months.  Three crore widows and divisions will benefit from it.  The money will go to their account via direct benefit transfer.

 -20 crore women general account holder will get an additional 500 rupees for the next three months to help them with household chores.

 Under the proposed scheme, the beneficiaries will be given a free cylinder for the next three months.  Over 8 crore women will benefit.

 - Amendment will be made to the Provident Fund Scheme Regulation.  In the organized sector, employees can take 75% of their PF in advance.  75% advance or three months salary, whichever is less.
 In the next two months, the government will deposit up to two months of PF amount in the organized sector where there are less than 100 employees and the salary is 15 thousand or less. 

 In PF, 12 per cent of the amount is invested by the company and 12 per cent by the employee.  This way the government will pay 24 per cent.  It will benefit employees of more than 4 lakh organizations.

 The $ 25 million fund is for people whose jobs have been lost due to coronavirus or have been affected by employment.  The government will send such checks directly to such people.

 The Deal also has a special provision. 

 Because of this, President Donald Trump, no member of his family, any member of Congress will not be able to get a loan or investment in the amount of this package.  This provision has been used to prevent misappropriation of funds.

Coronavirus in India Latest Updates Delhi Police distributes food packets to slum-dwellers The Delhi Police on Thursday distributed food packets to slum-dwellers in West Delhi amid the lockdown and educated them about the precautions to be taken in the wake of the coronavirus outbreak, officials said. 






Approximately 1,000 food packets were distributed with the help of an NGO in slum clusters of West Delhi''s Raghubir Nagar and Ghondewala Mandir, they said. With the help of NGO "Ek Noor" and peace committee members, the police officials of West district initiated a campaign for distribution of food, water and sanitisation in the slum area, a senior police official said.
